THE COLONY HIGH LIBRARY: JUST THE FACTS

The Library Media Center is a joint-use facility shared with the Colony Branch of the Ontario City Library.

As a center of creative and intellectual inquiry, the Colony High School Library is dedicated to information literacy and to supporting the learning activities of the school.

Library projects integrate information, technology, and literacy into the curriculum. The teacher librarian works in collaboration with classroom teachers to ensure that all students receive instruction in the use of the library resources--both print and online--and learn to analyze these resources and synthesize information into student projects and papers.

The library staff also assists students in finding resources for personal interest and pleasure reading. The ultimate goal of the library program is to help students become independent, information literate, lifelong learners. As such, students have access to many resources including books, magazines, newspapers, computerized databases and the Internet.

The library provides a place for independent study. Free materials distributed by the City of Ontario and school-related information are also available. A photocopier, belonging to the city, is available for student use for a fee.

The city library hours are: 12:00noon - 8:00pm M-W, 10:00 - 6:00pm TH-S, Sunday closed. To check out resources, students must have an Ontario City Library card. The City of Ontario collects fines for overdue materials.
