2021 Summer School

Summer School Students and Parents,

We hope you and your family are well and adjusting to the many changes caused by the pandemic. The Chaffey District is committed to providing an expanded summer school program so students can recover lost learning opportunities and remediate credits and/or grades. We will be offering two summer school sessions, as well as summer after-school and evening classes, to put students in the best position to get back on track for graduation or to prepare for college and career.

For convenience and to allow opportunities for as many students to take summer school classes as they would like, classes will be offered both through distance learning and in-person instructional models. The rigor and time commitment for each instructional model will be the same and the safety for students and staff participating in in-person classes will be a priority. We will continue to limit exposure and reduce the risk of transmission of COVID-19 through consistent social distancing, hygiene, mask-wearing, and cleaning/sanitization practices.

Please read below to learn how classes will be conducted and to better understand the teaching and learning expectations for summer school.

How Summer School Will Be Different In 2021

Students who want to enroll in summer school classes should do so by contacting their high schools. The Assistant Principal of Discipline at each school acts as the Summer School Principal and school counselors enroll students in classes.

All classes will utilize the Canvas learning management system which will serve as the hub for assignments, communication, grades, and even class meetings (for distance learners).

You can get to Canvas by using your computer or downloading the student app on your phone or tablet. The login information is the same as your Google/Microsoft credentials.

Student Expectations/Commitments

Summer school is a stand-alone educational term that, because of its condensed nature, is accelerated and may require work outside of the scheduled instructional time allotted to each class period. We recognize that the quick pace of classes will make this summer term challenging. However, we are confident that our talented teachers and students can rise to this challenge and create authentic and innovative learning experiences that can equal or surpass previous summer school experiences.

Student expectations are listed below so students and parents understand the shift in expectations and responsibilities.

  • Students will be expected to attend class daily, online or in-person depending on the instructional model of the class in which they are enrolled.
  • Students who are not in class during either of the first two days of class may be dropped from class so that another student may be enrolled.
  • Students will be expected to actively participate with teachers and peers in discussions and collaborations.
  • Students will be expected to complete all assignments to the best of their ability.
  • Students will be expected to commit to doing work outside of the assigned instructional time knowing that the summer term is accelerated.
  • Students will be expected to ask teachers for assistance and/or clarification as needed.
  • Students will be expected to have consistent access to a technological device and WiFi. If a student does not have access to these items, the District is committed to providing these resources for students.
  • Fee-based summer school classes offered through the Chaffey Foundation will follow the same schedule as other summer school classes.

Food Services

CJUHSD Food Services will provide free breakfast (beginning at 7:30 am) and free lunch for all students attending classes. Other food items will also be available for purchase.

Students who are not attending classes may pick-up Grab and Go lunches every day from 10:45 am – 12:30 pm.
